Being abroad with GEBHARDT - Lukas

Während des Studiums gehen all unsere Studenten, neben eines möglichen Auslandsaufenthaltes von der dualen Hochschule aus, zusätzlich noch mindestens vier Wochen zu unserer Niederlassung nach Nottingham in England.

In June 2018, I had the opportunity to work with Gebhardt European Conveyer Systems in England for one month. I really enjoyed the time in Nottingham and I am glad that I had this unique opportunity.

On my first day at work, I received a very warm welcome. My supervisor Kevin showed me the entire company and introduced me to all colleagues. All people, also those who were not in my department, were very friendly and helpful during my stay.

I worked with the Controls Department. The people are responsible for programming PLCs or for planning the installation of electrical components.

My colleagues took their time to show me what they were working on. If I did not understand something immediately, they explained it to me a second time.

During my stay, I had the opportunity to work on different tasks. One of my tasks was to engineer the arrangement of light barriers and bus modules in a storage layout. Another interesting task was to program a PLC for a small conveyor system. I liked that the tasks were always needed for real jobs.

At the end of my stay, I had the opportunity to go on a customer side with two colleagues. The plant was located in Bristol in the south of England. It was a long drive, but it was very interesting to go on a customer side abroad.

On the weekend, I had time to visit the city of Nottingham. Nottingham is a really nice city and it is bigger than I thought. During the entire stay the weather was good, so I was able to spend a lot of time outside. A place I would recommend anybody who is visiting Nottingham is Walleton Park. It is a nice place and it isn’t so far away from the city. But there are more nice places in Nottingham like the Old Market Square or the National Watersport Center.

In conclusion, I can say that I really enjoyed the time in England. I would have liked to stay there even longer. Thanks Gebhardt for offering me this great opportunity.

Many thanks to all colleagues from England who made my stay that great. I felt very welcome and really enjoyed the time in Nottingham. Special thanks to my colleagues from the controls department. They have really taken care of me. Thank you that you made this interesting time possible for me!
